Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of Bafana winger Oswin Appollis has come to an end as they failed to secure his services.

While Chiefs were in talks to bring the talented 23-year-old to Naturena, club legend Itumeleng Khune has been eager to make a return after the club failed to offer him a contract extension, leaving him to become a free agent. He even hinted at retiring unless Chiefs reconsidered his situation.

Now, however, a reunion with the club could be on the horizon.

Khune’s potential return to Chiefs The club is exploring the possibility of bringing the 37-year-old back into the fold, not as a player but in a new capacity within their marketing and commercial department.

“Yes, the club still wants to work with Itu (Khune),” a source confirmed. “They believe he has a lot to offer off the field, which is why the talks never really stopped. They understand he has other commitments in his life, but they are looking to find a role in marketing and commercial that works for both parties.”

Appollis stays at Polokwane City Meanwhile, Chiefs’ hopes of securing Oswin Appollis were dashed as Polokwane City managed to hold on to their in-form attacker. With interest from both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, the club seems determined to keep him. Polokwane chairman Johnny Mogaladi is focused on building a competitive squad for the future, and according to Appollis’ agent, Lance Davids, negotiations with the two clubs failed to reach an agreement.

β€œAt the end of the day, if the owner doesn’t want to sell, there’s nothing more that can be done,” Davids said.
