Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi was urgently in need of a hold-up center forward, and Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United fit the bill.
TASHREEQ MORRIS JOINS KAIZER CHIEFS
As reported last month, 30-year-old Morris made the move from SuperSport to Amakhosi, while Christian Saile moved in the opposite direction to Matsatsantsa. So, how did SuperSport agree to let Morris go? SuperSport United chairman, Stan Matthews, explained it was a matter of financials and practicality. He shared with IDiski Times, “Tashreeq Morris came to me at the age of 31 and said, βKaizer Chiefs want me and hereβs what theyβre offering,β and I couldnβt offer him anywhere near what they were offering.”

Matthews continued, “Should I keep him here feeling miserable because he knows he could earn more than double elsewhere? He was out of contract when he joined us, so I had to look at what was best for the club and the team. Morris signed a short-term contract with us, and we already had other number 9s like [Samir] Nurkovic and [Bradley] Grobler.”
He also added, “But we didnβt have someone like [Christian] Saile, who has the pace to get behind defenses and break lines, something Nurkovic and Bradley lack. So, I had to be practical. None of our three strikersβMorris, Bradley, or Nurkovicβhad that pace, so now Iβve got two 9s, but also a player like Saile who can offer something different.”
In the end, Matthews realized it made more sense for Morris to take the offer from Chiefs, ensuring both his and the clubβs long-term benefits.
