Things are taking a turn for the worse for Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize.
The vibrant businesswoman and philanthropist is now facing a hefty R51.1 million debt β R40 million owed to SARS and R11.1 million to former striker Samir Nurkovic.
Reports suggest that the PSL’s Executive Committee is considering expelling Royal AM, with a final decision expected by the end of this week.
Royal AM’s Recent Struggles
Amidst Mkhize’s ongoing controversies, which range from unpaid players (some of whom sought contract terminations during the January transfer window) to SARS temporarily taking over ownership of the club, Royal AM last played on December 29, suffering a 3-1 loss to TS Galaxy. Since then, the club has had eight matches postponed, including fixtures against Chippa United, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs.

Mkhizeβs Response
In mid-January, Mkhize reassured fans and stakeholders about the clubβs efforts to resolve the situation.
βOur management team, led by our CEO and General Manager, has been working closely with the curator to secure the necessary funds for salary payments,β Mkhize said. βIt has always been Royal AM’s priority to take care of our personnel, and we remain committed to that principle despite the challenges.β
βWe appreciate the patience and understanding of our players, staff, and their families during this tough time. We also thank our fans, sponsors, and stakeholders for their continued loyalty,β she added.
Mkhize emphasized that Royal AM is focused on safeguarding the club’s integrity and ensuring its future success. She remains hopeful that the current issues will be resolved soon and promised to provide updates as the situation unfolds.
