Orlando Pirates’ pursuit of PSL glory took a significant hit as they were humbled 4-1 by Mamelodi Sundowns, leaving them a daunting nine points adrift of the league leaders.

Thabiso Sesane’s Injury Update The absence of Bafana defender Thabiso Sesane was deeply felt in the heavy defeat. Sesane, who ruptured his tendon during Pirates’ hard-fought 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United earlier in the week, has been ruled out for an extended period. The club confirmed that the 24-year-old will require surgery to repair the injury.

Thalente Mbatha’s Injury Update In addition to Sesane, the Buccaneers also missed the presence of midfield dynamo Thalente Mbatha, who was sidelined after picking up an injury in the same match against Sekhukhune. However, unlike Sesane, the 24-year-old is expected to make a quicker recovery. Although Mbatha failed a late fitness test ahead of the Sundowns clash, the Pirates medical team is optimistic about his return soon. He will focus on rehabilitation in hopes of a swift comeback.

Looking Ahead Orlando Pirates will next face Golden Arrows on February 19, with Mbatha’s availability uncertain for that game. However, he may be ready to feature against Cape Town City on February 22.
