Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Marshall Munetsi couldnβt hide his excitement after making his Wolverhampton Wanderers debut, calling it a dream come true. The Zimbabwean international, who joined Wolves from Stade de Reims on transfer deadline day, came on in the 66th minute during their 2-0 FA Cup Fourth-Round win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Expressing his joy post-match, Munetsi said, βIβm so delighted, itβs been a dream to represent a big club like Wolves. What a way to start.β
Even though he played for less than 30 minutes, Munetsi left a lasting impression with his intelligent movement and timely positioning. He came close to scoring when he narrowly missed a header from a Rodrigo Gomes cross in the 73rd minute. Munetsi made three attempts on goal, had 18 touches, and completed 82% of his passes during his brief appearance.
Munetsi also credited the passionate Wolves supporters for fueling his performance. βItβs great to feel the energy from the fans,β he said. βThey gave me that boost even when I didnβt score. Iβm just glad to be able to contribute and keep going forward with their encouragement.β
He added, βIβm 28 now, and Iβve learned a lot in my football journey. Iβm ready to show what I can do.β
Munetsi, who has previously played in France, spoke highly of the famed English football atmosphere, noting the fansβ commitment and passion. βIn France, we have supporters, but itβs nothing like here,β he said. βThe energy in England is incredible, and the love I felt from the Wolves fans really pushed me to give my all.β
Despite his defensive midfield role, Munetsi displayed attacking instincts, with three touches inside the opposition penalty area and two key passes. Reflecting on his transition, Munetsi praised the team for making it an easy adjustment. βThe guys had already done the tough part to get the lead, and I just did my bit,β he explained. βEveryone has been so kind and helpful, from the players to the coaching staff. Iβve felt very welcomed, and the transition has been smooth.β
Munetsi’s debut showed his potential, and with a supportive team and loyal fans, heβs excited for whatβs to come at Wolves.
