Kaizer Chiefs’ 30-year-old midfielder, Edson Castillo, is drawing interest from Egypt’s Zamalek FC as his contract nears its expiration at the end of the season. After suffering a fibula fracture in late October, Castillo has been sidelined and hasn’t made an appearance in the PSL since.

Reports suggest that Kaizer Chiefs have yet to offer the Venezuelan international a contract extension, leaving the door open for Zamalek to secure him on a free transfer. According to SoccerLaduma, while there have been several inquiries for Castillo, Zamalek’s interest seems to be the most serious.

β€œThe club hasn’t shown much interest in renewing his contract, and with his injury situation, it now depends on the player and Zamalek to negotiate,” the outlet stated.

In contrast, midfielder George Matlou seems set to remain at Kaizer Chiefs, with a potential one-year contract extension on the cards. Despite a serious injury that almost cost him his future at the club, Matlou has impressed the technical team since his recovery, leading to the imminent offer.

A source close to the club revealed, β€œThe deal is as good as done, and the club is pleased with his progress. After his injury, it was uncertain if he would feature in the team, but now he’s on track for a new deal.”

Another insider shared, β€œThe injury delayed his return, but after showing his potential in training and games, Chiefs are eager to secure him for another year, with an option to extend further.”
