Kaizer Chiefs fans have quickly warmed to their new Congolese international, Glody Lilepo, who has made an impressive start at the club. The 27-year-old winger stood out in his debut against Orlando Pirates and followed it up with a solid performance in the 2-2 draw against AmaZulu. Lilepo then capped his successful start with a goal against Stellenbosch FC.
“It’s true that I am settling well,” Lilepo told SuperSport TV after winning the Man-of-the-Match award. “Before I arrived, I spent a few weeks watching Chiefs’ games to understand the players. By the time I got here, I already had a good idea of what the team was like.”
As June approaches, Kaizer Chiefs face a critical decision regarding the expiring contracts of key players, including Edson Castillo. The 30-year-old midfielder’s contract is set to end, and according to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have shown no interest in offering him a new deal.
Zamalek, the Egyptian football giants, are reportedly eyeing Castillo after unsuccessfully attempting to sign him last season. A source revealed that while Chiefs were previously unwilling to let Castillo go, the situation has changed, and he could leave for free if the club doesn’t renew his contract.
“It’s up to Castillo if Chiefs don’t offer an extension,” said the insider. “If Zamalek is interested, the final decision will come down to negotiations between the player and the Egyptian club. With Thabo Cele joining the team and Castillo’s injury, this is a crucial moment for him.”
