In today’s Orlando Pirates news update, we focus on the futures of Deon Hotto, Monnapule Saleng, and potential interest in Tshepang Moremi.

Deon Hotto’s Role and Future at Pirates Deon Hotto, the versatile Namibian midfielder, has proven himself to be a valuable asset to Orlando Pirates. Known for his ability to thrive in multiple positions, the 34-year-old has adapted to various roles, recently excelling in a right-sided attacking midfield position, moving away from his usual left-back role. Hotto’s future at Pirates is uncertain, with many speculating he will leave at the end of the current season. However, if Monnapule Saleng is sold, Hotto may see his contract extended as a dependable backup and rotational option, particularly to support the rising talent of Mohau Nkota. Hotto’s importance to the team was evident in the recent 2-1 win against Sekhukhune, where he contributed both a goal and an assist.

Could Tshepang Moremi Join Pirates? Pirates are reportedly eyeing Tshepang Moremi as a potential replacement for Monnapule Saleng if the latter departs the club. According to Soccer Laduma, Moremi is seen as a strong alternative to Oswin Appollis, a player also on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs. While Appollis has been a key target for Pirates, the club may shift their focus to Moremi, should negotiations for Appollis fall through. The deal for Moremi could involve a mix of financial compensation and player exchanges, with discussions around his transfer potentially shaping the final outcome.

Did Pirates Miss a Chance to Cash in on Saleng? Orlando Pirates had the opportunity to sell Monnapule Saleng to European clubs for a reported €2 million (just under R40 million). However, the decision was made to keep the winger at the club, a move that may now be questioned. Since the beginning of 2025, Saleng has not appeared in any competitive fixtures for Pirates, with his last outing being a 0-0 draw against Al Ahly in December during the CAF Champions League group stages. Many fans are now wondering if keeping Saleng was the right choice.
