Mamelodi Sundowns’ Erwin Saavedra, who left the club in January, is now considering his next move after a disappointing stint at the club.
The departure comes after Sundowns faced a foreign player quota dilemma due to the signing of defender Lucas Suarez. Saavedraβs future was uncertain, as he struggled to make an impact during his time at the club.
Although Saavedra spent three years at Sundowns, persistent injuries severely hindered his progress. When Sundowns signed Suarez, the club had to choose between Saavedra and Brazilian forward Arthur Sales, who had only just joined and was still adapting to the team. Ultimately, Saavedra was released, but not due to any ill willβreports suggest the decision was mutually agreed upon.
Recent reports from Mexico reveal that the 28-year-old, now a free agent, is currently in La Paz, Mexico, contemplating his next career move. Thereβs speculation that Bolivian clubs, as well as teams from abroad, have shown interest in the midfielder.
Saavedraβs career has been limited to just three clubs: GoiΓ‘s in Brazil, BolΓvar in Bolivia, and Mamelodi Sundowns. Signed for a reported R14.8 million, his time at Sundowns was underwhelming, with just 13 appearances over three years. In that time, he failed to score a goal or register an assist.
