Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has made an unexpected switch to Algerian powerhouse USM Alger. After leaving Zob Ahan Esfahan in the Persian Gulf Pro League before the January transfer window closed, the 27-year-old forward became a free agent, with USM Alger quickly seizing the opportunity to secure his services.
Bimenyimana, who initially gained attention from South African football fans when he joined Chiefs from Burundi, had a brief stint at Naturena. After a season with the club, where he scored eight goals across all competitions, his time was cut short due to recurring injury concerns, leading to his release.
Now, Bimenyimana has signed a one-and-a-half-year deal with USM Alger, the eight-time Algerian league champions. Currently third in the league, just three points behind leaders MC Alger, USM Alger is also making waves in continental competitions, having advanced to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup after topping their group with 14 points.
This move to Algeria marks a new chapter for Bimenyimana as he looks to bolster the attacking options for USM Alger in their bid for both domestic and continental success.
