Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa is just twelve goals away from making history.
Hailing from Botshabelo, Mabasa has become a key figure for the Buccaneers, netting 41 goals in 111 appearances, putting him on par with club legends Lesley Manyathela and Phumlani Mkhize.
His next target is Benedict Vilakazi’s record of 52 goals. With 18 games remaining in the season, the 28-year-old is confident that this could be his time to break that record.
Mabasa spoke about his pursuit of this milestone, acknowledging that he is close to achieving something no Orlando Pirates player has ever done: scoring 53 goals.
“People talk about Tso’s 52 goals, and my teammates have been reminding me of the record,” Mabasa said. “I haven’t focused on it personally, but their encouragement has motivated me to stay focused and take every opportunity to break that record. They believe in me, and that support means a lot to me. I want to make this achievement by the end of the season.”
In other Pirates news, the club is still keen on signing Jaedin Rhodes. According to SoccerLaduma, Pirates have been tracking Rhodes for some time, initially hoping to bring him in during the January transfer window. Although that move didn’t happen, the club still has plans to pursue him in the upcoming transfer window. A source added that changes to the squad, including possible loans or releases, are likely, as the club continues to strengthen its team for the future. Rhodes remains one of their primary targets.
