Kaizer Chiefs may have made three key signings during the January transfer window – Thabo Cele, Tashreeq Morris, and Glody Makabi Lilepo – but the club’s focus is still on securing a top-quality striker in the near future.
A source close to the club has revealed that the Chiefs’ technical team has advised management to prioritize signing a clinical number nine during the next transfer window.
While they’ve signed three new players, none of them address the glaring need for a striker, the source explained. “That’s why their search for a goal-scorer continues. Chiefs had already earmarked a few options but will also be on the lookout for fresh talent as the season progresses. Scouts will present new names for consideration ahead of the next window.”
Among the names being linked to Chiefs is Fiston Mayele, the Congolese striker from Pyramids FC. He remains a top target for head coach Nasreddine Nabi and the club. The source confirmed, “While Chiefs are keeping an eye on several forwards, Mayele remains their primary target for the next window. They’ve made it clear that they need a proven finisher—a real number nine to lead the attack.”
For now, Chiefs have young players like Wandile Duba, Ashley Du Preez, Ranga Chivaviro, and Morris to fill the striker role. While these players offer depth, the club isn’t convinced that any of them have the consistent goal-scoring ability needed to take the team to the next level.
As the July transfer window approaches, Amakhosi fans can expect significant movements as the club intensifies its search for a prolific goal scorer. Chiefs’ management and scouting team are working hard to find the perfect striker to solve their attacking issues. Will Mayele be the answer, or will a new, unexpected name emerge? Time will tell how Chiefs plan to bolster their forward line and improve their goal-scoring capabilities.
