Orlando Pirates may soon face the departure of one of their promising young talents after just a season and a half at the club. Despite the team’s rich pool of exciting attackers, the rise of several players has led to increased competition for starting spots, leaving some with limited game time.

Over the last couple of seasons, two exciting attacking players, Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota, have made impressive strides in the Pirates first team. Both players, who graduated from the club’s DDC setup, have earned significant attention, not only from the local scene but also from foreign clubs. However, their success has come at the expense of others, particularly Karim Kimvuidi.

The talented attacking midfielder, more comfortable in the No. 10 role, has struggled to break into the Pirates starting lineup, often being deployed on the wing. His preferred position is typically occupied by Patrick Maswanganyi, the club’s standout performer, or Kabelo Dlamini, who also pushes for a starting spot. Recently, with Maswanganyi missing the clash against Al Ahly, Mofokeng was given a central role, further diminishing Kimvuidi’s opportunities.

It has been reported that Orlando Pirates are considering sending Kimvuidi out on loan to gain more regular playing time. According to Soccer-Laduma, Kimvuidi has expressed his desire to move abroad if he leaves the club. The source explained, “Kimvuidi is one of those players who, despite his talent, finds himself in a situation where he is competing with established stars for a starting spot. He’s a good player who could thrive at another club, but his opportunities at Pirates are limited because of the fierce competition. A change of environment, possibly on loan, could help him, though he prefers to explore an option abroad over moving to another PSL team.”

With the January transfer window now open, it remains to be seen if Kimvuidi’s wish for a move abroad will be granted, or if Pirates will prefer to retain him for squad depth until the end of the season. Pirates supporters now face a tough question—would they be happy to see the young talent leave for international opportunities, or is Kimvuidi a valuable asset who should remain at the club for the remainder of the campaign?

What do you think, Pirates fans? Should the club keep Kimvuidi and provide him with more opportunities, or is it time for him to pursue a move abroad?
