Itumeleng Khune has expressed confidence that new Kaizer Chiefs signing Tashreeq Morris can rise to the challenge and make a significant impact at Naturena. The Chiefs captain, speaking to SNL24, praised Morris as a player with immense potential, especially in high-pressure situations.
βTashreeq is a great player, and heβs someone who thrives on big occasions,β Khune said, acknowledging the 25-year-old’s ability to deliver when it matters most. He also urged the Chiefs supporters to back Morris just as they would any other player who has worn the clubβs iconic gold and black jersey.
Khune emphasized the importance of judging Morris based on his performances on the pitch rather than his previous teams or his record. βLetβs not judge him based on his past or where heβs come from, because unfortunately, he didnβt get much game time at his previous club,β the goalkeeper explained. βIf he plays, performs, and scores goals, then heβll certainly have a chance of representing the country.β
Khune, who has played alongside Morris in the past for the South African U23 national team, reminded the fans that Morrisβs potential is not in question. However, he also stressed the unique challenges that come with playing for Kaizer Chiefs, calling the club “a completely different beast.”
βThereβs a lot of pressure that comes with being a striker at Chiefs, but I know heβs strong enough to handle it,β Khune continued. βHe just needs to prepare himself mentally and understand his role and responsibility. As a striker, your job is to score goals, just like as a goalkeeper, my job is to keep clean sheets. Thatβs how youβll be judged.β
With Khuneβs backing, Morris has a clear path ahead of him, but it will be up to him to prove himself on the field. The pressure of wearing the Kaizer Chiefs jersey is immense, but Khune believes Morris is ready to take on the challenge.
