A 44-year-old man has been arrested at the Beitbridge Port of Entry for attempting to smuggle a stolen vehicle into Zimbabwe using fraudulent documentation. The arrest took place on 16 June 2025, after border officials flagged irregularities during a routine inspection.
The suspect was found driving a grey Hyundai H1, which had been reported stolen in Pretoria in August 2024. In addition to facing charges related to the theft, authorities have added a fraud charge after confirming the documents presented were fake.
He is expected to appear in court today, 19 June, where he will face formal charges. The incident highlights ongoing concerns over cross-border vehicle trafficking and the use of counterfeit documents to bypass security checks at ports of entry.
