Following his release from prison in August 2023, rapper Pitch Black Afro, born Thulani Ngcobo, has returned to the music scene, performing at events and working on new material. However, his past continues to haunt him, especially his strained relationship with former manager DJ Cleo. In a recent interview, Pitch Black Afro opened up about the fallout over unpaid royalties for his hit song Matofotofo, which he claims caused a rift between them.

Pitch Black Afro revealed that DJ Cleo, whose real name is Tlou Cleopas Monyepao, never paid him the royalties he was owed for the popular track. “He ran off with my money, and we are not close,” he said. Despite the unresolved issue, the rapper has decided to let karma take its course. “I am not fighting; I just want God to handle the matter,” he added, hinting at a desire for peace and closure.
Even after serving three years in prison for the tragic killing of his fiancΓ©e, Catherine Modisane, Pitch Black Afro maintains that he has not reconciled with DJ Cleo. “I’m keeping my distance because I don’t like conflict,” he said. While Pitch Black Afro hopes the truth will eventually surface, he is focused on making peace with himself, rather than dwelling on past grievances.
In addition, Pitch Black Afro dismissed any claims that DJ Cleo discovered him and launched his career. “I was already known by the time he met me,” he stated, suggesting that his success was achieved independently. DJ Cleo, for his part, declined to comment on the matter, leaving the tension unresolved as Pitch Black Afro moves forward in his career.
