A mother from Bergville, Southern KZN, is urgently seeking help for her nine-year-old son, Alonde Ngwenya, who has been battling a rare condition known as cystic hygroma since he was just three months old. The condition, which causes abnormal growths, has severely affected Alonde’s face, causing one side to be noticeably larger. The swelling has now spread to his foot, preventing him from wearing regular shoes.

Alonde’s mother, Ntombifuthi Khumalo, recalls noticing the initial swelling on her son’s neck when he was an infant. Despite her immediate efforts to seek medical help, the condition continued to worsen over the years. “At first, there was no pain, so I didn’t realize how severe it would become,” she explains. The family has visited several hospitals, but despite consultations with various specialists, no effective treatment has been found.

The swelling has recently caused Alonde discomfort, including pain in his ear and neck. This has led to significant emotional distress for the young boy, who now struggles with low self-esteem. His mother is heartbroken, watching her son’s condition worsen without any viable solution in sight.

Desperate for a miracle, Ntombifuthi is appealing to anyone who can offer medical assistance. “I just want my son to live a normal life like other children,” she says, hopeful that someone can come forward to provide the treatment Alonde so desperately needs.
