The 29th African Bank Soweto Marathon, held on Sunday, 3 November, saw over 25,000 runners race through the streets of Soweto, celebrating the area’s rich cultural heritage. Participants passed iconic landmarks such as the Hector Pieterson Memorial, Vilakazi Street, and Regina Mundi Church.

Neheng claimed victory in the women’s race, winning a R250,000 cash prize. Despite facing health challenges in the lead-up to the marathon, she pushed through, attributing her success to both physical and mental preparation. β€œI wasn’t feeling well, but mental preparation helped my body perform,” she said.

In the men’s race, Onalenna Khonkhobe took first place with a time of 2:18:36, beating 2023 champion Ntsindiso Mphakathi by 37 seconds. African Bank’s CMO, Sbusiso Kumalo, praised the event’s community spirit, calling it a race “for the people, by the people.”
