Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia has issued a firm and emotional response to the brutal killing of two detectives in Roodepoort, Gauteng, vowing that the South African Police Service (SAPS) will relentlessly pursue Zimbabwean fugitive Jabulani Thabang Moyo.

Cachalia condemned the attack, stating, “An attack on the police is an attack on the state,” and promised that authorities “will not rest until Moyo is behind bars.” Moyo, who was awaiting trial for business robbery, allegedly shot the two officers while being transported from a court appearance back to Boksburg Prison. He disarmed and fatally shot them in Roodepoort’s CBD before fleeing in their unmarked police vehicle, which was later found abandoned.

Offering heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, Cachalia praised the detectives for their courage and dedication. “Their sacrifice is a stark reminder of the daily dangers faced by our police officers in the line of duty,” he said.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has deployed maximum resources—including crime intelligence units, detectives, Gauteng tracking teams, and the Hawks—to locate Moyo.

Cachalia urged the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small: “Your assistance could be critical in ensuring that justice is served.”

Moyo is now not only a robbery suspect but also the accused in a double murder of law enforcement officers—a crime that has sent shockwaves through the nation and intensified demands for swift justice.
