City of Tshwane Speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana has survived a motion of no confidence brought against him by the Democratic Alliance (DA), securing his position after a decisive council vote.

The motion, aimed at unseating Ndzwanana, was defeated as a majority of the 214 councillors voted in his favour during Thursday’s tense council sitting. The outcome signals significant backing for Ndzwanana from the multi-party coalition governing Tshwane and highlights the DA’s limited leverage in swaying key leadership changes.

While the DA has voiced ongoing concerns about the Speaker’s conduct and impartiality, the failure of the motion underscores internal political dynamics and shifting alliances within the council.

Ndzwanana’s victory not only preserves his role but also strengthens the current administration’s stability—at least for now—as Tshwane continues to grapple with service delivery challenges and political contestation.
