In a shocking turn of events, three people were killed in a violent shooting at a restaurant in Sandton, Gauteng, on Thursday night. The incident also left four others wounded, with all victims rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the altercation began when a man attempted to enter the restaurant, despite its strict no-firearm policy. This confrontation quickly escalated into a deadly gunfight between the man’s bodyguards and the restaurant’s security personnel.
Tragically, two of the bodyguards were declared dead at the scene, while the man who instigated the violence later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. In total, five people, including two patrons, a member of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), and a security guard, were injured in the shooting.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man responsible for the chaos had a troubling past—he had been arrested for a similar shooting incident in Sandton just the previous year.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police continue to investigate the case, which includes charges of murder and attempted murder. The shooting has left the community in shock and raised concerns about safety in the area.
