A dramatic shoot-out between police officers and suspects in Inanda, north of Durban, resulted in the deaths of three individuals on Saturday, February 8. The confrontation occurred in Bhambayi, a notorious area known for its association with the Inanda West Gang. The shootout comes just days after the funeral of gang leader Mnqobi Nzimande, who died following a similar altercation with police on January 30.

KZN police were acting on intelligence about the whereabouts of several suspects wanted for multiple murders in Inanda and Umlazi. The suspects were cornered inside a house, and upon realizing they were surrounded by law enforcement, they opened fire. Police returned fire, leading to a violent exchange that left three suspects fatally wounded. Three firearms were recovered from the scene.
Two suspects managed to escape the scene, prompting a manhunt for their capture. These individuals are believed to be responsible for the recent murders of four people, including two off-duty police officers, as well as the attempted murder of four others in a tavern shooting in Sundumbili on January 4.
Local residents expressed relief that the police were effectively addressing the crime problem in the area. One resident noted that while their neighborhood had become a hideout for criminals, they hoped the continued efforts of law enforcement would eventually restore peace to the community.
