Three Police Officers Busted for Escorting Multi-Million Rand Dagga Shipment on N4 Near Matsulu
In a shocking case of police corruption, three officers, aged between 32 and 49, were arrested this afternoon for allegedly escorting a vehicle carrying a large shipment of dagga along the N4 near the Matsulu T-junction.
Provincial police reports confirm the officers were in full uniform and using a marked police vehicle when they were caught in the act while on official duty. They were reportedly escorting a Toyota Corolla loaded with 107 bags of dagga, with an estimated street value running into the millions of rands.
The bust was made following a swift intelligence-led operation by police in Matsulu, who intercepted the suspects and made arrests at the scene.
Details of the Arrests and Charges
The officers, who belong to the White River Flying Squad, now face serious charges including corruption and defeating the ends of justice, with the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues.
Alongside the officers, two civilians β a 44-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman who were in the dagga-laden vehicle β were also arrested. They face charges related to dealing in dagga.
All five suspects are scheduled to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrateβs Court on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Police management has condemned the alleged misconduct and confirmed that internal disciplinary proceedings will be launched against the implicated officers. The incident has raised serious concerns about integrity within the police ranks, especially involving members of elite units.
