An 18-year-old boy tragically lost his life after an alleged drug binge in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands on Sunday, while another teenager narrowly survived after going into cardiac arrest.

Midlands EMS responded to urgent reports of unresponsive teenagers at the scene, where it was revealed that a group of teens and adults had been consuming drugs earlier in the day.

Roland Robertson, spokesperson for Midlands EMS, shared details of the harrowing incident. Upon arrival, paramedics found one teenager in critical condition. Despite immediate CPR and rapid intervention, he went into cardiac arrest twice before being successfully revived by the team. The teenager was placed on a manual ventilator and transported to a specialist hospital for further care.

However, a second teenager, also 18 years old, was found unresponsive at the scene and, sadly, was declared dead by paramedics.

“The circumstances surrounding this tragic event are under investigation by local authorities,” said Robertson.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has been contacted for further details regarding the ongoing investigation into the cause of death.

This tragic incident has raised concerns about the growing dangers of drug use among teenagers, and authorities are urging for further investigation and awareness of the risks associated with substance abuse.
