Solo, the upmarket restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg, has broken its silence following a deadly shooting incident on Thursday night that left businessman Sphamandla Mabonga and two of his bodyguards dead. The incident, which occurred outside the restaurant, has drawn significant attention, particularly due to Mabonga’s connection to Real Housewives star Londie London (real name Londiwe Zulu), who is said to have been his ex-lover.

A Security Breach and Escalated Conflict

In a statement, the restaurant management confirmed a security breach, revealing that a group of armed men had attempted to forcibly enter the premises. The restaurant maintained its strict no-weapon, no-violence policy and emphasized that the safety of its patrons is always a top priority.

According to the statement, the situation escalated when security personnel resisted the men’s entry. The local community policing forum responded quickly to neutralize the threat. “We extend our sincere thoughts and prayers to the innocent parties who were injured during the incident. We wish them a speedy recovery,” the restaurant stated.

The management also reassured patrons that the establishment would resume normal operations soon, thanking those who helped ensure the safety of everyone involved.

The Deadly Confrontation

Sphamandla Mabonga, a feared debt collector and businessman, was fatally shot during the confrontation outside Solo. The situation reportedly began when Mabonga and his bodyguards were refused entry due to carrying weapons. A violent altercation ensued, and gunfire erupted.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the police are still investigating the case, which involves multiple deaths and injuries. “We are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following the shooting incident,” Nevhuhulwi said. Two of the bodyguards were declared dead at the scene, while Sphamandla and several others, including two patrons, a community policing forum member, and a security guard, were rushed to the hospital with gunshot injuries.

An Ongoing Investigation

Sphamandla later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Initial investigations revealed that Mabonga had a history of violent incidents, including a previous shooting in Sandton last year.

As the investigation continues, Solo restaurant has pledged to continue its commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all its guests, ensuring that such incidents do not disrupt their operations in the future.
