In another twist to the unfolding saga around controversial businessman and murder-accused Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, a cellphone seized from his prison cell during a surprise raid at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for a full forensic investigation.
The Department of Correctional Services confirmed the device was discovered during a routine operation, raising urgent questions about how contraband continues to enter one of the country’s most secure prison complexes. Following the discovery, Matlala was immediately transferred to the ultra-secure C-Max section of the facility.
