EFF leader Julius Malema has come out in strong defence of ActionSA MP Dareleen James, following accusations from ANC MP Khusela Diko that James was merely “speaking for cameras” during the tense first sitting of Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing explosive allegations by General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

The political friction emerged shortly after ANC MP Soviet Lekganyane was elected to chair the committee, sparking immediate concerns from opposition benches about the ANC’s grip on the process. James openly questioned the ANC’s leadership of the committee—remarks that Diko dismissed as attention-seeking theatrics.

Malema, however, wasn’t having it.

“To be called populist, to be called cameras—it’s out of order,” he said, slamming Diko’s comments as dismissive and unfair. “She has not done anything wrong. These are legitimate political observations.”

The fiery exchange highlights deepening tensions as the committee begins its work to investigate serious claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused political figures of interference in SAPS operations.

As the inquiry unfolds, the political battle lines are already being drawn—raising questions about transparency, power dynamics, and accountability in the months ahead.
