Mdhluli Family Finds Closure as DNA Confirms Remains of Missing Journalist and Partner

The Mdhluli family has expressed a deep sense of relief and sorrow after police confirmed that the human remains recently discovered in Limpopo belong to missing journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Mdhluli.

Speaking to Kaya News from their home in Tembisa, Zodwa’s grieving relatives shared the emotional moment when police arrived late last night to deliver the final confirmation of the DNA test results.

A Painful Ending After a Long Wait

The family said the months-long wait for answers had been agonizing, but the official identification now allows them to begin with funeral arrangements and start the painful process of healing.

“It’s been a long journey. At least now we know. We can bury her with dignity,” one family member told Kaya News.

A Birthday Marked by Mourning

In a heartbreaking twist, the family also revealed that today would have been Zodwa’s birthday—a day usually marked by joyful family tradition and celebration.

“If she were alive, we would be singing, laughing, and sharing cake. Now we light candles in her memory,” a relative said, holding back tears.

Unanswered Questions Remain

While the family finds solace in finally knowing what happened, many questions about the circumstances of the couple’s disappearance and death remain unanswered. Police have not yet confirmed any suspects or motives, and investigations are ongoing.

As the Mdhluli and Ndlovu families prepare to lay their loved ones to rest, South Africa is once again reminded of the devastating human toll of unresolved disappearances—and the urgent need for justice.
