A routine intimidation complaint took an unexpected turn on Sunday when Pretoria-Moot police uncovered a significant cache of illegal firearms and ammunition hidden inside a local apartment.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk reported that officers arrived at the residence around 7 p.m. to question the occupant regarding a reported firearm. When asked to produce the weapon, the man directed officers to a sofa, where a revolver was discovered.
“The firearm, which had no license, was seized, prompting a further search of the apartment. Officers then uncovered a safe containing three additional firearms and 180 live rounds of ammunition,” said Captain van Dyk. The suspect was unable to provide valid licenses or any justification for possessing the firearms.
All four firearms and the ammunition were confiscated, and the suspect was taken into custody. He now faces charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police have sent the seized weapons for ballistic testing to determine if they are linked to any criminal activities. This discovery has heightened concerns about illegal arms circulation within the community and underscored the importance of vigilant law enforcement.
