In a sudden move, President Cyril Ramaphosa has cancelled Minister of Higher Education Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane’s participation in the upcoming China International Supply Chain Expo, just as she was about to board a flight at OR Tambo International Airport. The delegation, led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile, was scheduled to attend the expo in Beijing from July 16 to 20, 2025.

This last-minute cancellation follows serious allegations that Nkabane misled Parliament concerning the appointment of ANC-affiliated individuals to SETA boards. The controversy has ignited speculation of a possible cabinet reshuffle expected tonight, as President Ramaphosa prepares to address the nation.

Once poised to represent South Africa’s education sector on the global stage, Nkabane now faces intense scrutiny, with political insiders suggesting the decision signals deeper fractures within the government.
