A major new educational development is taking shape just outside Pretoria, where the Solidarity Movement, in collaboration with AfriForum and property developer Kanton, has officially begun construction on a R3.2 billion Afrikaans Akademia campus.
Launched on August 11, 2025, this ambitious project marks one of the largest private-sector investments in South Africa in recent years. First announced in August 2024, the state-of-the-art campus is set to transform the higher education landscape for Afrikaans-speaking students, combining academic excellence with modern residential living.
Designed to accommodate 5,000 undergraduate and 1,500 postgraduate students, the campus will feature world-class facilities aimed at fostering a vibrant academic and cultural environment. Completion is scheduled for 2028, with stakeholders promising a blend of tradition, innovation, and independence in the Afrikaans higher education sector.
The development is also seen as a bold statement of self-reliance by the Solidarity Movement, reinforcing its long-term vision of community-driven infrastructure in education and beyond.
