Concerns are mounting on social media after claims emerged questioning how Kamogelo Mogotsi secured the role of spokesperson for the Ministry of Police, despite holding a legal background rather than a media qualification.

Mogotsi reportedly studied towards an LLB degree at the University of Pretoria between 2009 and 2012. Now, users are calling on fellow UP alumni from that period to confirm her presence on campus — and to shed light on her professional path.

The post, which quickly gained traction, also voices frustration on behalf of many qualified media and communications graduates currently sitting at home unemployed. Critics are asking how someone with a law degree, rather than formal media training, was appointed to a high-profile communications role within government.

While career transitions across fields are not uncommon, the lack of transparency in government hiring processes — especially for politically sensitive posts — continues to fuel suspicion and frustration. The issue taps into broader concerns around meritocracy, cadre deployment, and the exclusion of qualified South Africans from public sector opportunities.

As scrutiny over political appointments intensifies, many are calling for the Ministry of Police to clarify Mogotsi’s qualifications and appointment process — not just to defend her suitability, but to restore faith in fair and open public sector hiring practices.
