President Ramaphosa Launches National Convention to Shape South Africa’s Path to Vision 2030

In a landmark address broadcast live on SABC News, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the convening of a National Convention set for August 15, 2025, marking the start of an ambitious National Dialogue process designed to chart South Africa’s development journey towards Vision 2030.

The President emphasized the country’s need for inclusive governance and collective progress amid ongoing challenges such as economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic and persistent socio-economic inequalities.

A Broad and Inclusive Gathering

The National Convention promises to bring together a diverse range of stakeholders — including government leaders, political parties, civil society groups, business and labor representatives, traditional and religious leaders, cultural and sports organizations, as well as women, youth, and community voices.

This broad representation aims to ensure the dialogue captures the rich complexity of South Africa’s society, fostering a truly national conversation that resonates across all sectors.

A Multi-Phased Participatory Process

Ramaphosa made clear that the National Dialogue is not a one-off event but a phased, participatory process starting with local and sectoral consultations before building up to provincial and national gatherings. This inclusive approach seeks to address critical national challenges, build consensus, and craft a shared vision for a united, forward-looking South Africa.

Towards a Shared Vision and Action Plan

The process will culminate in a second National Convention in early 2026, where participants will finalize a compact outlining the roles and responsibilities of citizens and institutions alike in realizing the country’s aspirations.

This initiative is seen as pivotal to reinforcing shared values, social cohesion, and national unity, reinforcing South Africa’s commitment to becoming a reconciled, equal, and caring nation.

As the nation prepares for this historic gathering, expectations run high that the National Dialogue will not only influence policy but also inspire a renewed sense of hope and solidarity across South Africa and beyond.
