Patriotic Alliance MP Ashley Sauls has urged that former Minister of Higher Education Dr Nobuhle Nkabane be held fully accountable following her dismissal by President Cyril Ramaphosa. However, Sauls emphasized that further investigations into the controversy surrounding SETA board appointments should proceed through appropriate parliamentary channels—not the current committee handling the matter.
Speaking in Parliament, Sauls acknowledged that the committee had done all it could within its mandate and called for oversight to now shift to bodies such as the Ethics Committee or other relevant forums tasked with deeper probes.
While stressing the importance of accountability, Sauls also urged colleagues to “move on” from the committee stage and allow the proper structures to carry the investigation forward, ensuring thorough scrutiny of Nkabane’s role in the contentious appointments.
His stance highlights the need for a multi-layered approach to governance oversight, balancing swift action with procedural integrity.
