Following the shocking acquittal of televangelist Timothy Omotoso on 32 serious chargesβ€”including rape, human trafficking, and racketeeringβ€”the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has appealed to the public for patience and restraint.

NPA National Director Shamila Batohi emphasized that while Omotoso has already left South Africa, the fight for justice is far from over. The Gqeberha High Court’s April 2, 2025 ruling cited prosecutorial errors and a weak case as grounds for acquittal, prompting the NPA to immediately file an appeal.

Batohi acknowledged the public’s frustration but urged understanding of the complex legal processes involved. β€œWe ask the nation not to rush to judgment. Our commitment to hold perpetrators accountable remains unwavering,” she stated, underscoring ongoing efforts to strengthen case preparation and witness protection.

The case, which captured national attention, highlights systemic challenges faced by prosecutors tackling high-profile crimes. The NPA’s appeal aims to rectify past errors and restore confidence in South Africa’s justice system.
