The N3 has now fully reopened to traffic following successful recovery operations earlier this week. The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) confirmed that emergency road repairs and recovery work had been completed, allowing all lanes on Van Reenen’s Pass to be opened to traffic once again.
The highway had been temporarily closed due to a major incident involving an abnormal load truck, which overturned while transporting a large transformer. This caused significant disruption to the northbound carriageway, forcing motorists to travel on a contra-flow system for a period.
In the days following the incident, the road was temporarily closed at certain points to allow rescue and recovery teams to clear the area. By Thursday evening, the N3TC confirmed that STOP/GO traffic controls had been implemented to help manage traffic flow while recovery efforts continued.
Now that the road has been cleared and repairs completed, drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant and adhere to road safety rules, particularly as the area may still have ongoing traffic management measures in place. Despite the challenges, the reopening of the N3 marks a crucial step toward restoring normal traffic patterns on one of the countryβs busiest routes.
