A 45-year-old Mpumalanga man, Johannes Khoza, has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Mbibane Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm ΒΉ.
According to police reports, Khoza allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend in the stomach on March 1, 2025, after threatening to kill her. The victim, who was working at a workplace in Leeuwfontein, Vaalbank, at the time, was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment and has since been discharged.

Following an intensive investigation, police found a .38 Special revolver and live ammunition hidden in Khoza’s yard. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has welcomed Khoza’s arrest, condemning the acts of violence allegedly displayed by him. Mkhwanazi emphasized that the police will continue to combat gender-based violence and femicide in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and community groups.
Khoza’s case has been postponed to May 7, 2025.
