The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has issued a fierce call for the immediate arrest of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, following bombshell claims by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
In a blistering statement, the MK Party hailed Mkhwanazi for his “relentless commitment to truth and justice,” praising his courage in exposing what the party calls a high-level criminal syndicate operating within SAPS leadership. The party accuses Mchunu and Sibiya of deliberately sabotaging investigations into political assassinations, actions it claims amount to obstruction of justice.
At the heart of the controversy are Mkhwanazi’s recent revelations that over 120 sensitive case dockets linked to political killings were quietly removed from the now-disbanded Political Killings Task Team, allegedly under orders from national leadership. These disclosures have shaken public confidence and triggered widespread political outrage.
“The nation cannot afford to look away while the very people entrusted with ensuring justice are accused of shielding killers and collapsing investigations,” the MK Party’s statement read. It called for criminal charges to be laid within 24 hours, warning that failure to act would reinforce perceptions of deep political interference and further erode trust in the justice system.
The party also placed pressure on National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola and Mkhwanazi himself to act swiftly and decisively, asserting that the integrity of South Africa’s criminal justice system hangs in the balance.
The MK Party’s demand adds fuel to an already volatile political climate, as opposition parties, civil society groups, and ANC structures weigh in on Mkhwanazi’s testimony. A parliamentary inquiry into the matter is now being strongly considered, with fears growing that the SAPS leadership crisis could deepen without swift intervention.
