Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, the former parliamentary Speaker, is set to appear in the Pretoria High Court today to request that the State disclose further information related to her corruption case. Mapisa-Nqakula is facing 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering, which are alleged to have occurred during her time as defence minister.
She is specifically seeking sections B and C of the police docket, which contain correspondence and the investigation diary. Mapisa-Nqakula’s legal team believes that these documents will aid in her defence, as they have raised concerns about the State’s evidence-gathering process.

However, the State is opposing the application, arguing that the requested sections are confidential and won’t be used during the trial. Mapisa-Nqakula’s case has been closely watched, given her prominent role in South African politics, including her tenure as Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.
The outcome of this application will likely have significant implications for Mapisa-Nqakula’s defence strategy. If the court grants her request, it could potentially provide her legal team with valuable information to challenge the State’s case. On the other hand, if the application is denied, it may limit her team’s ability to prepare a robust defence.
