A 50-year-old man, whose controversial video has caused significant outrage across social media, is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday. In the three-minute, 30-second video, the man calls on White people to “wake up” and expresses extreme views about the situation in South Africa. His language quickly becomes offensive, using derogatory racial slurs and making alarming statements about harm he claims would be inflicted by Black people on White people. His words describe disturbing acts of violence, including threats of physical harm and emotional distress.
The man’s comments also target political figures, including Julius Malema and Cyril Ramaphosa, whom he criticizes in a hostile manner. This inflammatory content led to an immediate public response, with many urging authorities to take action against him.
The Western Cape police acted quickly to launch an investigation after receiving complaints about the video. Brigadier Novela Potelwa, a provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that the remarks in the video were concerning and that the man’s statements were harmful to social harmony. He was arrested in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday and now faces charges of crimen injuria and potential violations of the Cyber Act.
