Travellers at Johannesburgβs OR Tambo International Airport faced significant delays on Tuesday as newly implemented changes at security checkpoints led to long queues and frustration among passengers.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed that updated security protocols were rolled out to enhance passenger safety, but the adjustments caused unexpected bottlenecks at key access points within the terminal.
Many passengers took to social media to express concerns over missed flights and extended wait times, calling for better communication and smoother management during transitions of this nature.
While operations have since stabilised, officials have urged passengers to arrive earlier than usual while the new system settles. ACSA said it is working closely with security teams and stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption going forward.
