Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba made an unannounced visit to the Molethi Home Affairs office following complaints from residentsβand what she found left her fuming.
During the surprise inspection, Ramathuba discovered that all workstations had been vacated during lunch, effectively shutting down public services in the middle of the day. Frustrated citizens had reportedly waited for hours, only to be told to come back later.
Calling the conduct “unacceptable and disgraceful,” Ramathuba condemned the staff’s disregard for public service obligations. βYou donβt shut down an entire government office for lunch. People come from far, some spending their last money to get here,β she said. βThis will be escalated to the relevant national authorities.β
The Premierβs tough stance has drawn praise from the public, many of whom have long complained about poor service and a lack of accountability at government offices. Her visit sends a clear message: service delivery comes firstβand slacking on duty wonβt be tolerated.
