Lebombo Border Post Reopens for Cargo Operations Following System Restorations
The Lebombo Border Post has officially reopened for cargo movement after being temporarily closed last week due to political unrest in Mozambique, according to the Border Management Authority (BMA). The closure was triggered by protests and violence that resulted in cars being set on fire on the Mozambican side of the border.
Dr. Michael Masiapato, Commissioner of the BMA, confirmed that the situation has now been addressed, allowing for the resumption of operations. βWe are pleased to announce that the Mozambican systems have been restored, with processing activities now back on track at the KM 4 checkpoint on the Mozambican side,” said Masiapato. “This sets the stage for the full reopening of the port and for clearing the current cargo backlog.”
While the initial reopening was focused on managing the movement of people, cargo processing systems have now been fixed, enabling smoother transit for goods through the Ressano Garcia port of entry. βMozambican authorities worked tirelessly to address the cargo systems, ensuring the efficient processing of shipments across the border,β Masiapato added.
The BMA, in collaboration with SARS, will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure secure and efficient operations at the port. The focus remains on safeguarding both the movement of goods and the well-being of all stakeholders in the trade community.
