The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 5 warning for disruptive rains in both Limpopo and Mpumalanga, with potential risks of flooding in settlements and damage to infrastructure. Travelers are advised to exercise caution when crossing low-lying bridges and to adhere to road restriction signs. Those with upcoming reservations at KNP are encouraged to contact camp reception desks or the SANParks emergency hotline to verify the accessibility of their accommodations.

In addition to the warnings for Mpumalanga and Limpopo, severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected across several other regions, including Gauteng, the Wild Coast, North West, and the Free State.

A statement from KNP highlighted that while localized flooding, particularly south of the Olifants River, has caused the closure of certain camps and gravel roads, all park gates remain open and operational. The park’s Roads Management team has been proactive in addressing road safety concerns. Forecasts indicate that rivers, including the Sabie and Sand, will continue to experience high water levels, which could result in prolonged disruptions. The Luvuvhu River in the north is also at its highest level for the season, prompting continued monitoring of road conditions in the area.

Visitors are urged to stay informed of any ongoing road closures and to exercise extra caution during this period of heavy rainfall.
