The Kraaifontein community in Cape Town was left in shock on Thursday morning after a primary school principal was tragically killed in an incident outside the school. The incident occurred around 7 a.m., as students were arriving for the school day.
Captain Frederick van Wyk, a provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that police were investigating the incident. “Serious and Violent Crimes detectives are on the scene in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, gathering information and looking for clues,” he said.
According to the police, two individuals had arrived at the entrance of the school on Henzekile Street in a white Mahindra vehicle. At that moment, three unidentified males approached the vehicle and fired shots. A 54-year-old man, who was in the vehicle, sadly passed away, while a woman was injured and taken to the hospital. The suspects then left the scene in an unknown vehicle.
The motive behind the incident is still unclear, and authorities are appealing to the public for assistance. “Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Colonel Eddie Clark at 082 469 1531 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111,” Captain van Wyk added.
The local community is deeply affected by the event, particularly as it occurred so close to the school, leaving both staff and students shaken. Police are continuing their efforts to understand what led to this tragic incident.
