In a dramatic development in the kidnapping case of 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has released five suspects due to insufficient evidence, while a 42-year-old police sergeant, Nzima Adoons, remains behind bars. The suspects were scheduled to appear together in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court, but only Adoons, who faces charges of kidnapping and extortion, proceeded in custody.
Baukudi, a Grade 11 learner, was rescued on June 27 in Wepener, Free State, following intense investigations. The case has sparked public interest and concern, particularly around the involvement of a police officer in such a serious crime. Adoons’ bail hearing is set for July 3, 2025, as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances behind the shocking abduction.
