A Long-Awaited Justice: Gilbert Fankomo Sentenced to Four Life Terms for Years of Harmful Actions. On April 24, 2025, the Mpumalanga High Court in Mbombela delivered a significant ruling, sentencing Gilbert Sibusiso Fankomo, a 39-year-old man from Numbi Trust, Masoyi, to four life imprisonment terms for his series of crimes committed over many years. Fankomo was convicted for multiple offenses against young girls between the ages of 8 and 11, in the areas of Hazyview, Masoyi, and Calcutta.

Fankomo’s actions involved deceit, as he would often gain the trust of his victims before leading them to isolated areas. Over the span of several years, his behavior caused deep harm to the children and families affected.

This conviction comes after a thorough investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit, whose hard work and persistence ensured that justice was served.

It is important to note that Fankomo had a previous conviction for similar offenses in 2010, and despite being released on parole in 2019, he continued to harm others. The sentencing is a reminder of the importance of strong protective measures to prevent such actions and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals, especially children.

The court’s decision marks a critical moment in the ongoing effort to uphold justice and protect the most vulnerable members of society, sending a message about the importance of accountability and the resilience of those working to create a safer community
