Minister Gayton McKenzie has responded to racism allegations by pointing to his multicultural roots, firmly stating, “How can I be racist?” Defending himself against claims that he used racial slurs, McKenzie explained that his own family background reflects a blend of cultures and identities.
He shared that his grandmother was Irish, his grandfather Japanese, and his mother a Sotho woman—emphasising that he speaks Sotho fluently. According to McKenzie, this rich heritage shaped his worldview and makes it impossible for him to harbour racist views.
As political tensions rise, McKenzie maintains the allegations are not only false but also deeply unfair, insisting they are being weaponised to discredit him rather than confront the truth.
