Cape Town – A high-stakes chase through the Company’s Garden led to the arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in a vehicle theft syndicate. The trio is set to appear in court this week after their dramatic capture by law enforcement officers in the Cape Town CBD.
Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, revealed that the suspects were spotted behaving suspiciously as they entered the CBD. Law enforcement officers, working with the Central Improvement District, ran a check on their vehicle and discovered it was using false number plates.
As officers moved in, the suspects abandoned their car and fled on foot, darting into the Company’s Garden. A swift response led to the area being surrounded, launching an intense manhunt. When the suspects were located, they resisted arrest, leading to a scuffle as they attempted to evade capture.
Upon detaining the trio, officers uncovered an assortment of tools used for vehicle theft, including remote jamming devices and multiple false number plates. Their vehicle, along with all evidence, was handed over to the SAPS Investigating Officer for further investigation and prosecution.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 28, now face various charges, with one of them linked to a similar case in Muizenberg. Authorities continue their crackdown on vehicle theft syndicates, reinforcing security measures across the city.
The swift and coordinated efforts of law enforcement highlight the importance of vigilance and teamwork in tackling crime, ensuring the safety of Cape Town residents.
