Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul and convicted sex offender, has been hospitalized following an alarming blood test result, according to his attorney. Imran Ansari, Weinstein’s lawyer, confirmed in a statement that the 72-year-old was admitted to a New York hospital for β€œemergent treatment” after the troubling test results required immediate medical attention. He will remain in the hospital until his condition stabilizes.

This hospitalization comes shortly after reports surfaced that Weinstein had been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer, a condition he has been struggling with. In addition to this, Weinstein is reportedly suffering from leukemia, and his attorney has claimed that he has been deprived of adequate medical care while incarcerated. Ansari and Weinstein’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, both highlighted the “inhumane conditions” Weinstein has endured at Rikers Island, where he is currently serving his prison sentence. Engelmayer went as far as to call it “cruel and unusual punishment.”

Weinstein, who co-founded Miramax Films and played a pivotal role in shaping Hollywood, is currently facing legal battles related to several sexual assault charges. In 2020, he was convicted for the rape of actress Jessica Mann and the sexual assault of production assistant Mimi Haleyi. However, his conviction was overturned by an appeals court last year, and he is now set to be retried in New York in 2025. Additionally, Weinstein faces further charges in a 2006 sexual assault case, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

In a separate case, Weinstein is also serving a 16-year sentence after being convicted of additional rape and sexual assault charges in Los Angeles in 2023. Though his trial was initially scheduled to begin in November, it has been delayed.

Weinstein’s fall from grace began in 2017 when allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and rape by over 80 women came to light. These revelations were instrumental in sparking the #MeToo movement, which ignited a global conversation about sexual misconduct in various industries. Despite his conviction, Weinstein continues to maintain that any sexual encounters in question were consensual.

As Weinstein’s health remains under scrutiny, his ongoing legal challenges and the broader implications of his actions continue to capture public attention.
